Frequently Asked Questions
Q. If I sign a forestry agreement with Athol Forestry Cooperative will I lose control of what happens on my land?
A. No. Even though you have signed a forestry agreement and have received your management plan for the woodland you must sign a work order for every job that is done on your wood lot. The purpose for the work order is to keep the landowner informed and if they do not want this work done they just return the work order to Athol Forestry unsigned and the work will not happen. So the landowner is always in control.
Q. Do I have any say as to what work will be done on my property?
A. Athol Forestry staff will be following the work as it is outlined in your management plan. If you have a something else in mind please mention it to the staff and they will tell you if it is something that they can get assistance for or you may be able to hire one of Athol's Contractors and pay for the work yourself.
Q. Will the Forestry Agreement I have with Athol Forestry hinder the sale of my property if I decide to sell it to another woodlot owner?
A. No. We ask that you advise us of the sale so we can approach the new owner to see if they wish to assume your agreement or if they want to sign their own agreement with Athol. If they are not interested in having a forestry agreement on the property than you have to give written notice that you wish to end the agreement and that will take place 90 days after the date your letter is received by Athol Forestry.
Q. When I sell my woodland do I have to pay back the money that was spent on it for tithe thinning and plantations?
A. Any of the funding agencies require that any expenditures they make on your property remain there for 10 years after the date the work has been completed. If you sell your property to someone and they are going to turn a five year old plantation into a parking lot that you or the new owner would be responsible to pay back the value of the original expenditure for that plantation.
